Cafe La Ruina & Raj - taste, travels and... a move
Cafe La Ruina & Raj are two halves of the Śródka district’s beating heart. Ruina’s first appearance on Poznań’s culinary map marks the beginning of the rebirth story of this grey and raddled part of town. The opening of La Ruina, whose name reflects the image of a district forgotten by civilisation, has strongly contributed to Śródka’s revitalisation and significantly influenced its today’s atmosphere. Now, sadly, both La Ruina and Raj are closing. This information shook Poznań and gave everyone a small heart attack. However, the sad announcement is followed by a happy development - the restaurant is being relocated to Św. Marcin in late March of 2019. And so, we are now presented with a once in a lifetime last chance to see where one of Poznań’s most colorful culinary stories began.

La Ruina is a cafe which, next to its excellent coffee, is considered Poznań’s home of iconic cheesecakes. If you are a coffee lover and think yourself a sweets expert - there is no time like the present to pop over to Śródka where you can face a local legend.
Raj is a restaurant and Jan and Monika’s culinary travel diary of sorts. The owners of the place are people of many passions - among them also travel and culinary arts. The dishes served in Raj are created on the basis of recipes brought from the most remote corners of the world. The interior brings to mind cozy street bistros and diners. The postcard form menu tells the story of the particular dish idea and where it comes from. The food is uniquely delicious and one of a kind.
Nowadays, Śródka is a district of boutique hotels, many restaurants and the facades of newly renovated beautiful, old-style townhouses.
Śródka has now turned from a proverbial ugly duckling into a beautiful swan. So beautiful in fact that running a business in this part of town has become extremely expensive and so the time has come for both La Ruina and Raj to close. When this information reached the locales’ devoted fanbase, it shook them to their very core. Luckily, the sad intro was followed closely by a happy development - the whole endeavor is moving to Św. Marcin at the end of March, 2019. Perhaps there is also a deeper meaning in all this. Just like once upon a time, La Ruina was able to breathe life into Śródka, maybe now this breath is needed in Św. Marcin. Simply renovating the street is not enough to turn it back into the gem of the city it used to be. What is needed is the passion and colors straight out of Śródka. Good luck to Jan, Monika and their crew - see you all in Święty Marcin!
Buen provecho!
