From the Mayor

Ryszard Grobelny - Mayor of Poznan

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Poznan has been a conference centre for many years, its potential is valued both within the country and abroad. Within the last couple of years, exceptional congress events have been organised in Poznan on an unprecedented scale in the country.

In December 2008 Poznan was the place where the United Nations Climate Change Conference - COP14, one of the biggest political congresses in the world - was held. Within a period of twelve days the area of the Poznan International Fair was put at the disposal of 12,000 members of international delegations representing 190 countries. The conference guests included the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, presidents, prime ministers and ministers. Among the participants there were also Nobel prize winners: Al Gore and Wangari Matthai, as well as many personages from the world of politics and science. The organisation of COP14 was a huge logistic undertaking based mainly on the conference potential of the City of Poznan. The fact that the conference was organised perfectly is proved by the opinion of the COP14 Secretariat - the Poznan conference was evaluated as the best organised in the whole history of these meetings.

In December last year on the Poznan International Fair grounds, the 32nd Young Adult Meeting organised by the Taizé Community was held in Poznan, attracting 30,000 participants.

We believe that the logistic success of these huge events and positive recommendations are a capital, which in the future will attract organisers of important world congress events to the City.

In the second half of 2011 Poznan was the host of meetings organised as part of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The biggest of these meetings were held at the Poznan International Fair.

I am positive that Poznan is the right choice.
