39th St John's fair
From 14th to 29th June Poznań's Old Market Square will be packed full antique, food and craft stalls as part of the traditional St John's week celebrations.
There really is no better time to visit Poznań's old town than the last two weeks in June.
Every day between June 14th and 29th, from 11am till 9pm, in Stary Rynek and Żydowska Street, 102 stands and stalls await Poznań residents and tourists. The stalls are filled with unique handicraft items such as hand-made stuffed animals, pillows and pillow covers, as well as wooden and ceramic items. A Belarusian monastery offers hand-painted ceramics. There will be a chance to observe the work of a potter and a blacksmith, and sculptors will make a three-meter-tall Slavic carving. Those interested in the art of handicraft can broaden their knowledge of the topic by participating in specially prepared painting, leather book-binding, knitting or doll-making demonstrations. As every year, there will also be something for the collectors of antiques, china, coins and stamps - all in stalls in Żydowska.
Food items from Lithuania and the Polish region of Podlasie, such as breads and cold-cuts, have been enjoying great popularity for many years. The food stands will also be filled with pastries, fragrant spices, wax products, own-apiary honeys and other bee products, such as bee pollen and propolis.
Fashion enthusiasts will love the unique collections of linen clothes, as well as various natural cosmetics and preparations. The ladies will get the chance to enrich their jewelry collections with original additions. And for all those fascinated by the process of creating your own fashion style, there will be a fashion show prepared by Arletta Koczorowska and Galeria Orientalna Zari. (Zari Oriental Gallery).
The gourmands will be able to please their palates with oscypek (a smoked cheese made of salted sheep milk exclusively in the Tatra Mountains region of Poland) and other culinary delicacies, and those seeking to cool down can do so by eating delicious ice-cream.
Each day of Jarmark Świętojański has events in a different theme. The arrival of a motorcycle armada at Stary Rynek, or a procession of 100 Mercedeses will be a real treat for automobile enthusiasts. Everyone who wishes to take part in the Jarmark festivities will be able to do so throughout the event. Many of these festivities have been designed with not just the grown-ups in mind. “Dzień dla Dziecka” (“The Day for the Kids”) is dedicated to children of all ages, but especially the little ones. On that day, the provincial final of Preschoolers’ Song Festival („Finał wojewódzki Festiwalu Piosenki Przedszkolaków”) will take place, as well as the Order Uśmiechu (the Order of the Smile) presentation.
“Dzień Ulicznych Rymów” (The Day of Street Rhymes) is aimed at young adults, and dedicated to rap music. The lovers of the classical tunes have not been left out, either - they can enjoy performances by the ballet school, choirs or the “Erato” artistic group.
As a way to promote a healthy lifestyle, the 39th Jarmark Świętojański has prepared Dzień Fitnessu (Fitness Day). On that day, professional fitness instructors will present their skills, offering an alternative way of spending your free time. Dzień Sportu (Sports Day) will be a chance to observe young football talent from Akademia Reissa (a football club for kids, started and funded by ex-Lech Poznań player, Piotr Reiss) in action. Each day, dancers from Poznań’s most prestigious dance schools will present their artistry and finesse, inspiring the audiences to develop their own passions.
Nearly 100 hours will be filled by the artistic events accompanying this year’s Jarmark. During the festival, there will be performances by The Last Ride, RUST, DJ SOINA, Felix the Baker, RR Brygada, Yuma Band, Affabre Concinui and many more.
Throughout the entire duration of Jarmark festivities, many charity activities will also take place, and “Dzień dla Palium” (Day for the Hospice-Palium) specifically will be a one-day charity event.
