Success! The World Congress of Political Science will take place in Poznań!
Only a week ago, Poznań Convention Bureau and President Jan Mazurczak were honoured with an MP Power Award 2015 in the Convention Bureau category, and today we have yet another great success to report.
It is our great pleasure to announce that the 24th World Congress of Political Science IPSA will take place in Poznań between July 23rd and 28th, 2016. At the same time, this will be the first edition of the congress taking place in Eastern Europe.
IPSA is an international organisation created in 1949 under the auspices of UNESCO, which currently brings together 42 national associations handling political science, including Polish Political Science Association (Polskie Towarzystwo Nauk Politycznych). Around 3000 scientists from over 80 countries took part in the previous edition of the congress in 2013 in Montreal.
In the explanation behind choosing Poznań’s candidacy, the organisers stress its historical value as one of Poland’s oldest cities, while at the same time being a inexpensive university town, with students constituting nearly a quarter of the population. A large deciding factor was also the strong international position of Adam Mickiewicz University. Poznań has hosted this range of events in the past - for example, the 2008 Climate Summit. Its good aerial communication with cities like Copenhagen or Frankfurt, as well as numerous rail connections are yet another of Poznań’s many assets. In their decision, the organisation also mentioned the location of Poznań Congress Centre, situated in the vicinity of the Old Town’s wide cultural offer, as well as many hotels and the airport.
This is a great success for Poznań and Poznań Convention Bureau, who have defeated 9 other European cities in attaining the privilege of organising this prominent event. It gives us the more satisfaction to see Poznań find recognition in the eyes of the organisers, which serves as another proof of the city’s ever stronger position on the European business tourism market.
